Japan’s Nuclear Crisis

Last week’s earthquake damaged the some of Japan’s nuclear power plants, and now they’re in danger of melting down and harming the population and environment.  What’s the worst case scenario?  FOX News Medical Contributor Dr. Mark Siegel explains the possible dangers.  PLUS: Has the crisis in Japan changed your opinion on nuclear power?

“No Child Left Behind”

President Obama says the country’s education system needs to be fixed and wants Congress to reform the “No Child Left Behind” Act.  Some states like Wisconsin and New Jersey are already addressing their education systems by cracking down on teachers’ unions.  Will reforming NCLB do enough to fix the nation’s struggling schools?  And are privately-run but publicly-funded charter schools the answer?

Online Shopping Tax

The governor of Illinois just signed into law new legislation that will force online shopping sites to start collecting sales tax.  Popular internet retailers like Amazon and Overstock.com are already threatening to stop business with affiliates in the state.  Should online stores have the luxury of not charging sales tax, or should they have to collect the same taxes as traditional retailers?

I know that what is happening to Japan is terrible but did you know that our own government is getting ready to put everyone on furlough and the military will get paid later if they can not pass something to keep the government open by the 17th of this month? I believe this deserves 5 minutes.

Tom,

Reference the recent comment from a caller who said, (paraphraise) God does these things to get non-believer's attention and then leaves them alone . . . . How does that explain "bad things" happening to believers like those who were in Japan and endured or were killed by the quake/tsunami????? It doesn't!!!!!!! This was not the action of a loving God! It was the result of a "broken" world. Unfortunately, there is no simple answer to the delema. But, GOD DID NOT CAUSE THIS!!!!!

(If you want to blame someone, blame humankind for dis-obedience!)

Why are people so scared of nuclear power? i don't think that they can separate the devastation that a nuclear bomb creates and the benefits of a nuclear power generation plant. These are two completely different uses of nuclear materials. If people want to meld two completely different end products of something why don't they start making a fuss about alcohol? Alcohol can save lives and destroy lives. Why not start working on a ban of alcohol?

I think the people of Japan are more concerned about clean water/heat/and their homes and family than the nuke problem. Coming will be problems with dead bodies/disease and shortage of gas and water.
