School Bans Christian Club
A federal lawsuit has been filed on behalf of a group of Christian high school students in New York who said their principal banned them from starting a Christian club.
Audio clip:
“The principal said, ‘I don’t want any of these Christian clubs at my school,’” said David Cortman, an attorney with the Alliance Defense Fund, a conservative advocacy legal group. The ADF filed the lawsuit Monday against the Hicksville Union Free School District in Central Islip, NY.
“Public schools cannot ban Christian student clubs simply because they are religious,” Cortman said. “If officials at government-run schools did their homework, they’d know that students have a constitutionally protected right to express their beliefs.”
Last October, students at Hicksville High School requested official recognition for the Frontline Club. They had a dozen classmates willing to join the club and had secured a faculty advisor. However, the principal denied their request – and said she did not want a Christian club in her school.
An assistant to the school district’s superintendent told Fox News Radio they were unaware of the lawsuit and said talking to the superintendent was “not an option.”
Cortman said in 2008 the principal denied a similar request and said that any religious club must be “multi-faith,” open to all religions and must allow non-believers to lead the club.
As for the Frontline Club, Cortman said parents received a letter from the school explaining the club ban was due to financial issues.
“She stated that they didn’t have money in the budget for a Christian club,” he said. “But they allowed a ping pong club, a ski club, a debate club and in fact, they are funding 35 clubs.”
“It’s ridiculous that Hicksville High School says it has no budget for a Christian club but somehow has enough for a ping pong club.

I'm 17 and go to Lower Cape May Regional Highschool in Cape May, New Jersey and we have a Bible study every Tueday and our principal has no problem with it. We also have another Bible study every Friday over at out Junior High School and we seem to have no problem over there either. So I believe that the students should fight this to the end because God has favor to those who believe in His devine Word over those who deny Him.

No they should fight for what they believe in. I go to public school for a reason, i don't want to have Christianity or any other religion shoved in my face. My parents are already on my back about going to church so i don't need it at school. If you want to have a christian club, join a church group or better yet go to a christian school.

Good for you, Alise. You can rest assured that the students at Hicksville High School will get their Christian club as well. The principal is wrong in thinking that it's "her school." It belongs to the taxpayers, and the students have the right to assemble there.

the teacher/ principal should be not only prosecuted for anti religious bias but should also be fired. More of the union headaches and not hiring qualified and thoughtful teachers. Parents should be very vocal on this issue in support of the kids!

this is disgusting. Wonder why kids have no respect for anyone or thing.
Thanks to the unions we have people like this person in charge of our schools. Get rid of her. The parents should take back their schools
and kids. Where are the parents?

The principal looks like she is from India, and has an Indian-sounding name. Americans should bear in mind that allowing immigration of large groups of people from countries that worship cows, might eventually influences anti-Christian decision-making of these people and their heirs in the executions of their roles as professionals in America.
The first thing Indians, who have just about taken over the motel business in America, did when they gained control over specific motel chains was to REMOVE THE GIDEON BIBLES FROM THEIR HOTEL ROOMS!

Wouldn't you think any kind of club that supports morality would be welcome in any school envirment? Well, they don't want to teach love of God, or abstinence until marriage or anything that hints of self control… my grandson belonged to the Amnesty International club in high school and it changed him from a patriotic, country loving boy to a young man that hates everything about our government.. I would have been joyous to have him in a christian club instead….

I am the advisor for New Life Campus Outreach Club- a Christian club at a public high school- Wilcox High School, in Santa Clara, California. We are allowed to meet because of "Equal Access" meaning if other clubs are allowed to meet, so are we. IF we aren't allowed to meet, neither are other clubs allowed to meet. Our Adinistrators here are great; they trust the clubs and don't "butt in" on any of the clubs. At our high school, the school doesn't fund us or any other club. As for New Life club- we do fundraisers to support our club and the service projects we involve ourselves in. Don't give up and don't be intimidated Frontline Club! Find out what your rights are and- "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:5-6

The school is not the principle's school. He is an employee of the county and is paid to do is job there.

Just make sure that you guys don't complain when the Muslim, Hindu, Gay, Wiccan, or any other minority group want to create a group at schools. Remember how much you are arguing about the "equal access" requirement.

Obviously you no nothing about the ACLU!

These issues have been decided by the courts already. The school is on violation in almost every case. In a nut shell, teachers and school staff are agents of the state and must be careful not to influence their personal views. At the same time, teachers' rights cannot be violated either. This includes the right to their religious beliefs. The school is clearly in error and MUST allow the club or ban all non-curricular clubs going on in the district.
Funny how the ACLU seems to be more concerned over secular rights, not those of Christians.
Sorry SChmorty, God and religion are two different things. I encourage to read the Bible cover to cover and then come back with an opinion. Just because you don't know Him, doesn't mean he doesn't exist. I don't know you, but I have faith that you exist.

It can be allowed, but the school should not support it in any way. These acts must be peaceful and there shouldn't be any turmoil with Christian's preaching against other lifestyle groups in the same school. I'd prefer if the school didn't host anything so strongly arguable. But it is a right, and it is up to the students to attend or not as long as they keep it in their own circle. Same with any LGBT clubs, Islamic clubs, and Jewish clubs.

Homosexuality..is an IMMORAL behavior, chosen by people with mental disorders from abusive childhoods. As a school administrations psychiatrist in practice for over 38 years, I remember when the AMA, APA, & other pschological organizations list homo/lesbian/bi/transgender behavior as abhorant to OVERALL SOCIETY. They too were infiltrated by the "gay" activists & changed all definitions & beliefs concerning chosen immoral behavior. They are trying to do the same in public schools to their demise.

It's tough to get a club going when the unifying factor is that the membership believes nothing and doesn't care.

I'm sorry but you have basically said that if you are a homosexual you must be mentally disturbed! That is just totally ridiculous!! How in the world did you come up with that? The biggest problem with people nowadays coming out of the woodwork proclaiming to be gay is society as a whole.
In the last 10 to 20 years the gay community as it were, has lead a charge to target the 30 and under age group because they knew it was useless to reach 30 year olds and up. It is a direct assault on the children of our country because they can influence them easily and with the morons out in hollywood (and others) who are promoting the 'gay' agenda through movies and tv. It astounds me that our nation looks to celebrities and the tv and film industries for our "moral fiber". I mean look at it, they have programming to 'address' moral issues in order to 'educate' us and they even have those public service announcements on how to behave and act with a celebrity in front of a camera. THey even have them telling parents how to parent. Have you looked at most of the celebrities we have now, they aren't exactly morally conscious!

Continued from 1st comment:
It is basically the moral decline of our nation and allowing any and every thing people think to infiltrate our lives. This nation has steadily allowed our moral compass to be schewed over the years and now it has ran rapid through our whole country. As we speak, groups are out there trying to take Jesus out of our lives! And they are winning.
What I would like to know is….Where are our leaders of faith? Why aren't they speaking out against this in a far bigger way than I have seen so far. Not all of these leaders are silent but not enough are standing up for or Lord Jesus and it is shameful.
Matthew10:32-33
'Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I also will confess before My Father who is in heaven, But whoever denies Me before men, him I will aslo deny before My Father who is in heaven."

(cont.
)As far as I am concerned, this nation is continually silencing our Lord in every aspect of our lives and the reason for our troubles started with that. Once you take God out of the picture, things fall apart and that is what our country is doing right now and has been for a while. And people ask what is wrong with our country, well it is a simple as that. Plenty of those out there will strongly disagree with me , and that is okay becasue I strongly disagree with them. This is still America and I still have a right to free speech and can voice that , of course until those who oppose my Lord catch wind of it.
Our nation was founded on the principles of Christian beliefs and there is no Christian representative invited to the National Cathedral for yhr 9/11 ceremonies this Sunday! We are headed for destruction folks if we continue this path!
