AEHQ: The Role of Voter ID Laws in the 2012 Elections [VIDEO]

Recent court decisions on state voter ID laws are certain to play into the 2012 elections.  Democrats argue that strict voter ID laws disenfranchise minority voters, but Republicans argue they allow for fair and just elections by American citizens.

A brand new FOX News poll shows 70% of Americans think voter ID laws are necessary to prevent illegal voting.  Thirty-two states do require some form of ID at the polls, but a number of those laws have been blocked by the Justice Department, and others are caught up in litigation.

Critics say the laws are aimed at blocking legal votes by the poor and minorities – groups that exit polls show overwhelmingly voted for President Obama in 2008.  Though a Federal court upheld most of Arizona’s voter ID law on Tuesday, both Texas and Wisconsin are fighting for the right to enforce their ID laws in this year’s elections.
