Hazing Charges Filed in FL Marching Band Death
Six months after a Florida drum major was beaten to death in a hazing ritual, the first criminal charges have been filed.
FOX News Radio’s Eben Brown reports from Miami:
Audio clip:
Robert Champion’s beating death during a Florida A&M Marching Band trip to Orlando caused the school to investigate and even suspend its legendary marching band. Now, prosecutor Lawson Lamar says it’s officially a crime.
(Lamar) “Robert Champion died as a result of hemorrhagic shock, due to soft tissue hemorrhage incurred by blunt force trauma sustained during a hazing incident.”
Thirteen people in total are facing charges of hazing. Florida law considers hazing a crime in and of itself, and nobody is charged with murder.
