FOX on Tech: Malware Could Take Computers Offline Monday [VIDEO]

Thousands of people could wake up Monday to find a world without internet, all thanks to some malware that hackers set up more than a year ago.

It all started last year, when seven hackers infected more than 4 million computers around the world with malware.  The FBI says they did it using rogue DNS servers, routing infected machines to certain websites.  The more traffic to certain sites, the more money the hackers got paid.

Well, in order to make sure the victims didn’t lose internet service immediately last year, the FBI brought in clean – but temporary – servers, and told victims to clean their computers.  But as of Monday morning, the temporary servers shut down, and up to 277,000 infected computers could have no internet.
