At Least 12 Killed in Movie Theater Massacre [VIDEO]

A mass-shooting during the midnight screening of  ”The Dark Knight Rises” at a crowded movie theater has claimed at least 12 lives and injured 58 people in Aurora, Colorado. The suspect James Holmes (pictured above) is in police custody and is expected to make his first court appearance on Monday.

It was just about 10 minutes into the movie when the gunman kicked in an exit door near the screen, tossed a tear gas canister and started shooting.

Jennifer Seeger was in row two and saw the gunman way too closely.

(Seeger) “He had it to my face. He had the gun in my face. I was freaked out for like five seconds. And I just dove into the aisle and I was like I don’t know what to do, I’m just gonna curl in a ball.”

Police found the suspect, identified at 24-year-old James Holmes, outside the building.

They’ve searched his car and apartment for explosives.

No fewer than four hospitals were called upon to treat victims of the massacre in Colorado.

Dr. Frank Lansville at Aurora Medical Center speaking about some of the most critically injured.

(Dr. Lansville) “Those in critical conditon the information that I have is that those are gunshot wounds to the neck and torso and abdomen.”

Dr. Lansville also speaking about some of the injuries sustained from the gas canisters set off.

(Dr. Lansville) “The patients that we did see had burnng skin, burning eyes, burning and irritation to their nose and mouth.”

One eyewitness reporting seeing a little girl shot in the back and other children are reportedly among the wounded.

News of the shooting at the Batman movie premiere in Aurora has moviegoers in other cities shaking their heads.

‘Dark Knight’ moviegoers here in Chicago walk out only to find out about what happened in Colorado.

(Moviegoer) “That’s just terrible. We just all come here peacefully, try to watch a peaceful movie.”

(Moviegoer) “It’s not surprising to see that this can happen. It’s very saddening.”

Similar response from Warner Brothers and the filmmakers. Chicago Sun Times columnist Bill Zwecker tells FOX News Radio tonight’s (Friday night’s) Paris premiere has been canceled.

(Zwecker) “The decision to cancel came directly from Christopher Nolan and everyone involved because they realized that there’d be no reason do anything except pull back from all of this at this time.”

The Motion Picture Association of America says they’re in shock and extend prayers to those affected.

President Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney are pausing to reflect on the mass shooting in Colorado.

President Obama is in south Florida. He was informed of the movie theater massacre by his Homeland Security Adviser early this (Friday) morning.

In a statement, the President says he and Michelle are shocked and saddened, adding: “When we are confronted by moments of darkness and challenge, we must come together as one American family.”

Mitt Romney, in a statement says “Ann and I are deeply saddened by the news of the senseless violence”, offering prayers for the families and loved ones of the victims.

    So seriously confused about this world of hate living in a society when going to a movie can be the judgment of your faith. how can it be !? all they wanted to do was go see batman why couldn't you have just let them be …..all i can keep thinking of is that it could of been me . why was your heart filled with this hate and who are you or anyone to be the judgment of some one innocents faith. You were a coward from the start how can you of possibly had something like this possessed inside your heart .After reading this story i have so much pain still trying to think how can someone be so insane.Theres nothing anyone can do besides sit around and baffle about the things they heard on the news . i feel so different then the people of the press because this is an issues that seriously needs to be addressed we were all given the right to bare arms if this right was kept not as many would have been harmed these are things that happen when the people are disarmed. – Martin Azzopardi .

      Fool. This wasn't a crime committed because of hate. This man clearly has mental health issues. If it hadn't been the Batman movie he would have obsessed about some other thing or person and gone and killed a different group of people. This is not the result of anything but a man who was clearly meantally ill and didn;t get the help he needed. Stop waxing petically like we can all stand together and hold hands and these things wouldn't happen. Sometimes people are just sick and do crazy things.

    Schools and government bldgs including the post offices, libraries, and all public buildings need to begin to post "help" lines with telephone numbers for anyone experiencing depression or emotional pain or more seriously, delusions, for anyone to call to talk, ask for local mental health resources. Mental illness has been tucked away in our society, and we need to embrace mental illness as we do any medical illnesses.
    Mental illness resources need to become more accessible to members of our society. The stigma of mental illness needs to be stopped now. People are dealing with it on their own, and, as we see, it only gets worse.
    There is help. Please seek it out through your state's health department or an emergency room. Connect while you are still able. Do not suffer alone. Help is available. Ask now.
    Call the operator and get the "suicide help" number.

    I agree, Martin. We can never know exactly what is is within a person to turn a heart so evil. But don't give up on our world or society which is, by far, filled with overwhelmingly GOOD people. The media thrives on only reporting the tragedies. Oh yes, there are times when a heartwarming story is thrown in for good measure, but their business plan, their mission statement is to present sensationalism, no matter how ugly. This tragic CO story is like a gold mine for them. Also, Martin, there are millions of stories about instances where an armed citizen interceded to stop a would-be killer, abuser, or other criminal, that are NOT reported in the news. There are many, many more of those stories out there, but you wouldn't know it because so much of the anti-gun media would never want to show folks the positive side of the 2nd ammendment.
