Food Stamp Abuse Crackdown

Coming soon. A crackdown on the abuse of Food Stamps.

FOX News Radio’s Rich Johnson reports from Washington:

Audio clip:

The Agriculture Department wants to impose tougher penalties on stores that violate Food Stamp rules; such as letting customers use them on alcohol, tobacco, and other ineligible items. The Department’s also trying to battle the trafficking of Food Stamps. Among those efforts; convincing Ebay, Craigslist, and other social media sites to ban ads offering Food Stamps for re-sale. However, the AG Department says the Food Stamp program has one of the lowest abuse rates of any Federal program, only about 1%.

    1 I am not on Food stamps, so don't make any negative or stupid commets to me or any one who is on it.
    2 food stamps does not come in paper form- that ended over 15 years ago or so;
    2. Most state foodstampscomes on a EBT card. this card is like a debit card requiring a PIN.
    3. The worst of abuse is that people will try to sell part of their FS in exchange of cash. This I have seen and reported.
    4. You are limited to what you can purchase with the Food stamps.
    5. Small Stores who sells anything that is NOt food or candy or soda should lose their permits. FOOD stamps says FOOD. not cigeretts, alcohol or non food items.
    6 Florida is one state that has the smallest Cash Assistance while NY, FL Ct and NJ has the highest.
    7. In most states you can NOT get Public Assistance or Food stamps unless you are working with the Department of Revenue in collecting Child Support from the missing parent, if a single parent is applying.

    There needs to be much better controls around this ridiculous "food stamp" issue. People should not be able to have the ease of a debit card from the governement to buy whatever they want!!! To include long taxi drives (and yes, whoopie pies) to ANY store!! HUH?? What is wrong with this country!! HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF A FOOD PANTRY?? Go get your healthy FOOD their and end this massive tax payer waste!!!! It's just not fair to those NOT on "food" stamps…the common middle class citizen is racking up major credit card debt (in these tough economic times) buying legitimate food for their family….NOT alcohol, tatoos, taxt rides, candy, soda, pastries…etc. etc!!! It's time to END this abuse… even itf it's "only 1%". 1% is too much, and I am SURE it's higher than this!
