States To Receive Transportation Project Cash Boost

Remember the uproar over ‘earmarks’ on some Federal Funds? It turns out, some of them never got used. So what happens to the money now?

FOX News Radio’s Jared Halpern reports from the White House:

Every state but Wyoming has unspent highway funds. More than $470 million dollars in all:

Earnest: “Some of which are nearly ten years old.”

White House Spokesman Josh Earnest says instead of letting those dollars sit idle:

Earnest: “We’ll use them to put Americans back to work repairing our crumbling roads and bridges right now.”

The nearly half a billion dollars were all earmarked between 2003 and 2006. House Republicans and President Obama have barred such spending now, but the White House argues this is money already set aside and should be used to improve highways, ports and transit systems.
